GFWC Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club just wrapped up its 35th Annual Lutz Arts & Crafts Festival after another successful run. This year marked their 35th year of putting together the Woman’s Club’s largest annual fundraiser which is a tremendous undertaking. More than 20,000 attend this event with over 250 vendors as well as about 25 free booths donated to local non-profit groups. This year, GFWC FL President Carole Weaver graced us with her presence and visited with the club’s Food Concession workers as she enjoyed some Christmas shopping.
CARES Organization in Pasco County
GFWC Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club recently presented a donation check of $300 to the CARES Organization in Pasco County. The Woman’s Club has for many years manned the telephone reassurance office, under the leadership of longtime volunteer Gloria Dale, in making daily calls to area seniors and shut-ins. These ladies spend hours speaking with elderly and infirm clients who may not have any other outside contacts. They also direct them to available services which may be needed, such as Meals on Wheels or other social or medical services, thereby making a big difference in many lives.
Annual Thanksgiving Veterans’ Bake Sale
GFWC Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club members have baked special holiday treats for their Annual Thanksgiving Veterans’ Bake Sale held at the Baldomero Lopez Veterans’ Nursing Home in Land O’Lakes. Chair Donna Losch directed this club project with members Sharon J. Bard and Lonna Vizzari assisting with sales at the facility. All proceeds benefit the residents’ recreation fund which allows the vets treats such as an occasional lunch at McDonald’s or funds to buy needed personal or hygiene items on local shopping trips.
Over 80 Shoeboxes Donated For “Operation Christmas Child”
GFWC Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club members donated gift items and filled more than 80 shoeboxes as part of their annual “Operation Christmas Child” charity which is part of Samaritan’s Purse. Chair Madeline McCulloh spearheaded the drive and was delighted that she was able to fill the cargo hold of her SUV to overflowing this year. “Team Hardy” daughter / mother club members Janet & Dorothy Hardy outdid themselves and filled 20 boxes on their own. They won the challenge issued by Club President Kay Taylor who ran a close second in the contest.
Food Pantry of Christian Social Services Donation
GFWC Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club members, under the leadership of Chair Madeline McCulloh, has recently collected and delivered to the Food Pantry of Christian Social Services in Land O’Lakes over 90 pounds of food items. Their food pantry has found its shelves very bare this holiday season and very much appreciated the donation for the area’s most needy
Silk Scarves Donated to Patients at Moffitt Cancer Center
GFWC Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club member Doris Ramaglia, during a recent volunteer team outing to Hope Lodge, generously donated more than 40 beautiful silk scarves to the “beauty boutique” Resource Center at this residence for patients receiving treatment at Moffitt Cancer Center. The boutique / resource center provides attractive wigs, scarves and other head wraps free of charge to ladies who have suffered hair loss as a result of their chemo treatments. The donation of this collection of colorful scarves by Ms. Ramaglia was meant to lift the spirits of those brave women undergoing very difficult treatments.
