GFWC Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club members recently attended the annual General Federation of Women’s Clubs State Convention in Orlando. The women attended numerous workshops, learning experiences and seminars. This year’s theme celebrated veterans and honored its own veteran members.

GFWC Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club recently congratulated and honored longtime members for their many years of club service and community volunteerism. Annette Bellingar, Membership Chair presented “year” pins to Aniko Solomonson (30 year member), Barbara Jackson (15 year member) and Jeannie Oller (5 year member) in appreciation for their faithful service.
Woman’s Club Commemorates 9/11
GFWC Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club members came out in force and in shifts to wave flags in commemoration of 9/11. The passing traffic showed their support by vociferous horn-blowing, especially by the big rig 18 wheelers. Showing their patriotism on 9/11 has long been a Woman’s Club tradition since 2001 appearing both in Land O’Lakes and Lutz.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 2015

GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB recently made a donation of $100 to the American Cancer Society to help kick off its 5K non-competitive walk to benefit “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer”. Woman’s Club team chair Ciel Birkett and co-chair/treasurer Gloria Dale recently presented the check to American Cancer Society staffers for this fundraiser event to be held at Shoppes @ Wiregrass on October 24. The Woman’s Club (a/k/a “Green Shirt Ladies”) Team will be out in full force for this important walk.
WOMAN’S CLUB AWARDS 2015 ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIPS

GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB is proud to announce its roster of 2015 Scholarship award recipients. Corey Watson (USF) and Elizabeth Earley (Southeastern University) were each awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Woman’s Club-administered Lutz Volunteer Fire Dept. Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund. In addition, the Woman’s Club funded the following Scholarships awarded in the sum of $1,500 per student:
Megan Hoedt (USF), Amanda Normandia (FL Polytech), Benjamin Tran (UF), Monique Borton-Smith (Erwin); Marco Pulgar (UF); Suraj Ranrakhyani (UC/Berkley); Catherine Espinosa (St. Petersburg College); Cassidy Doyle (UF); Benjamin Damato (USF); Madison Cooper (USF); Olivia Connors (FL Atlantic U.); Kaylee E. Baer (Auburn).
The Woman’s Club is proud to have awarded a total of $28,000 in scholarships to local students this year and continues to support education in numerous and myriad projects throughout the year.
Standing Strong vs. Domestic Violence
GFWC Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club members recently made a strong statement against Domestic Violence by sporting bright purple nail polish on their ring fingers (with a direct line to the heart). This very active community service organization has sponsored many fundraiser events for safe haven shelters over the years as well as presenting awareness programs to bring forth the important discussion of prevention of Domestic Violence Against Women and Children. The Woman’s Club stands firmly against Domestic Violence and will continue to promote its prevention through education and community awareness.
