GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’ LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB – WELCOME HOME AND RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY FOR WILLIAMS’ FAMILY

May 13, 2024

On Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 11 a.m. club members from GFWC Lutz-Land o’ Lakes Woman’s Club were invited to attend a Welcome Home Ceremony and Ribbon Cutting at the Let’s Do-Good Village in Land O’ Lakes in honor of Jenny, Caden, and J.J. Williams.  It is no coincidence that May 4 is International Firefighters Day.  Jenny, Caden and J.J. chose this special date to celebrate their husband/father Patrick (Pat) Williams who worked as a firefighter with the Kansas City, MO Fire Department for 33 years until he passed away from occupational illness.  It was our pleasure to join the Williams Family and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation as they were recognized and honored Pat’s life, service, sacrifice and legacy as we welcomed his family into their new mortgage-free home.  Twelve Green Shirts attended bearing gifts for the family and their new home.

WOMAN’S CLUB SUPPORTS ONE OF ITS OWN, LINDA MITCHELL, FOR LUTZ GUV’NA

May 1, 2024

GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB IS THRILLED TO SUPPORT ITS 1st VP, LINDA MITCHELL,  in the Annual Lutz Guv’na Race. The club is all in behind its gal and will support her to the hilt.  As Linda says, she “is in it to WIN it”!  The other candidates are Joann LaChance, owner of Pinch-a-Penny and Ron Brooklyn, owner of Hard Rock Landscaping.  Linda Mitchell has retired from 25 years of teaching in 8th grade middle school and has been involved in everything Lutz for decades, from kids’ sports, scouting, community service and mentoring/advising the Little Women of Lutz, a teen group under the auspices of the Woman’s Club.

Linda killed it at the crazy Kick-Off debate and won a $100 prize for having the most supporters in attendance.  However, In the cow pie throwing contest, she was outthrown.

The Lutz Guv’na Race is a decades-long family-friendly, whacky, fun annual event meant to raise funds for the community non-profits, while having a great time.  The winner will be determined by which candidate raises the most funds by begging, borrowing or stealing (in a good-natured way) and will be ‘inaugurated’ at the Lutz 4th of July Celebration.

CLUB SUPPORT FOR NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

May 1, 2024

GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB have ‘planted’ blue pinwheels and signs at the Historic Old Lutz School to bring the very serious problem of child abuse to the attention of the community and beyond.  The clubwomen also painted one finger on each hand with blue nail polish, as a reminder that 1 in 5 children are victims of child abuse, in support of National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April.

The club members made a point of wearing blue and denim to their monthly meeting representing their stand against domestic violence and sexual abuse.

WOMAN’S CLUB TOURS HENRY B. PLANT MUSEUM

May 1, 2024

GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB went to the Henry B. Plant Museum and enjoyed a two hour tour graciously provided by club member, Faith Sincich, who is a longtime docent at the museum.  Since 1933, the Tampa Bay Hotel has been home to the Henry B. Plant Museum and The University of Tampa. The Museum ignites thought and transports visitors to another era through exhibits and innovative programs, so that they may be educated and inspired by the lifestyles, times and experiences of Florida’s early tourist industry. Original furnishings, artifacts and a dynamic self-guided audio tour immerse visitors in the opulence of the 1891 Tampa Bay Hotel and its rich history.
