The Woman’s Club group has been present each and every year on this date to wave flags in both Lutz and Land O’Lakes to mark this sad occasion. It was heartening to listen to the resounding chorus of truck and car horns acknowledging their presence and the display of all the flags.

GFWC Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club welcomed as their guests Easter Seals staff and special guests, 9 year old Mya Metheny and her family. Mya has, since the age of 5 years, seen the need and has committed to help children at the Murray Childhood Development Center of Easter Seals/Florida by regularly reading to them. She has expanded her vision and mission to include the collection of children’s books for a children’s library at the center. Both Mom and little sister, Avery, have joined in to help with Mya’s project.

The Woman’s Club, under Chair Ciel Birkett, has collected well over 100 children’s books for Mya’s cause and presented them to her for the children’s library together with a certificate of achievement at their recent meeting.

GFWC Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club recently invited well-known local watercolorist, Bob McAnespie, member of both National Watercolor Society and Florida Watercolor Society, to instruct members at one of their weekly arts and crafts session. The class was a great success with Mr. McAnespie expertly guiding the ladies, many of whom had never worked with water colors before. Members proudly left the class with their own masterpieces to frame. The woman’s club will continue to meet for arts and crafts each Thursday in August at the Lutz Community Center at 9:30 a.m. behind Lutz Library on Lutz-Lake Fern Rd. & Hwy. 41.
