GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2018 Scholarship Awards totaling $20,000. The recipients of the Lutz Volunteer Firemen’s Endowment Fund Scholarships are:
Autumn Darrigo (not pictured), a Hillsborough CC student, $5,000 award, twins Caitlin O’Shea, $2,500 and Erin O’Shea, both Steinbrenner seniors, $2,500 each, all of whom are Lutz residents. Additional Club Scholarships of $2,000 each were awarded to: Breena Levison (LOL) and Matthew Julian, (Lutz) Sunlake seniors, Devyn Espy, (Odessa) Steinbrenner senior; Amy Le and Makayla Hildebrand (both LOL), Land O’Lakes seniors. The Woman’s Club congratulates these outstanding students and wishes them every success in their college careers.
Field Trip to Morningstar Fishermen Aquaponics Facility
The International Outreach Committee arranged a field trip to Morningstar Fisherman on May 14th.
Morningstar Fishermen is an international aquaponics research and training facility located at 33336 Old Saint Joe Rd Dade City, Florida 33525 . They are a Christian organization committed to healthy and sustainable living for all. They currently train people, around the world, to implement aquaponics as one solution to world hunger.
Their goal always stays the same, to educate people in a way that encourages and prepares them to teach others.
Spring Luncheon Welcomes 6 New Members
GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB has formally installed 6 new members into their ranks at their recent Spring Luncheon. The new members were warmly welcomed into the fold of these tireless “green shirt” ladies who have served on behalf of the community since 1960.
Cereal for Summer Collection Sets New Record
GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB recently delivered a whopping 216 boxes of donated “Cereal for Summer”, a part of Feeding Tampa Bay. The purpose of this drive is to provide a nutritional breakfast for children during the summer recess when they are unable to access their school breakfast programs. The Woman’s Club exceeded their last year’s number of donated boxes which was the goal set by Chairs Pat Wagner & Gail Howard.
Conservation Field Trip to Lettuce Lake Park
GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB members enjoyed a group tour of Lettuce Lake Park with binoculars and cameras in hand. The ladies were led by Joel Jackson (rear), husband of member Barbara Jackson, who helped them identify all manner of flora, fauna and avian species in this preserve. The framed prints were photographed by Mr. Jackson and presented to the Club Conservation co-chairs, Nancy Allen and Lonna Vizzari (l & r front), who coordinated this educational outing.
Club Serves at Trinity Cafe
GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB members recently volunteered to serve a delicious hot meal to the more than 380 daily diners in need and to sit with these guests to provide conversation and fellowship. Trinity Café in Tampa defines itself as a daily demonstration of humanity in action. The club women have served as “servers” at Trinity for many years and intend to increase their involvement since there is the need.
