GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB members presented a donation check to Friends of Land O’Lakes Library in support of National Library Week. As a project of the club’s Education Committee, these clubwomen read a story to the young children and assisted them with a special art project to promote Library Week.
Lutz Library Celebrate National Library Week With Crafts
GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB members recently assisted the Youth Librarian at Lutz Library in commemoration of National Library Week by helping the young children with decorating a craft book and writing a story. The clubwomen also presented a donation check to “Friends of Lutz Library” as they have done for many decades. KarenSue Molis chairs the club Education Committee which supports our community libraries in both Lutz and Land O’Lakes.
Bedrolls for the Homeless Project Delivered
GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB members, Aniko Solomonson, Pat Serio and Mary Anne Lykins recently delivered a van full of hand-crocheted bedrolls, donated clothing, shoes and duffel bags for clients of “The Well”, which serves the area’s needy and homeless population in Tampa.
The Well is not a residence but serves a variety of other needs such as a food pantry, clothing closet, shower facilities, hot meals, socialization areas, an organic garden and an “in progress” fish farm.
Longtime clubwoman, Aniko Solomonson has made it her personal mission to encourage her 100+ fellow members to collect, fold, tie and crochet recycled plastic grocery bags into weather resistant full-length bedrolls for the homeless. Over the past several years, Ms. Solomonson has herself produced and delivered many of these bedrolls which have proved to be very useful to the homeless population. She has expanded this project to include teaching her method to numerous other community organizations and church groups.
There has been a great deal of local interest in the bedroll project and Ms. Solomonson has received inquiries from places as distant as Canada and South America.
Support the Troops – Assembling Donation Packages
GFWC Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club members’ team under the direction of Public Affairs Chair, Donna Losch, again volunteered at the “Support the Troops” warehouse in Wesley Chapel. Each month the clubwomen gather to sort and pack needed supplies and hygiene items for troops serving abroad. On this most recent workday, the ladies exceeded their prior record and packed 560 individual bags and 28 large boxes of donated items to be shipped to our military stationed overseas.
Give Day Tampa Bay May 3, 2016
Because of a sinkhole at Lake Park, GFWC Lutz-Land O Lakes Woman’s Club was unable to have their Annual Arts and Crafts Show, the biggest fundraiser for the club.
As a result, the funds for scholarships or to support veterans and others in need in our community will not be available.
Therefore, GFWC Lutz-Land O Lakes Woman’s Club is excited to be participating in Give Day Tampa Bay on May 3, 2016. GiveDayTampaBay, a part of a national day of giving, is May 3,2016 and is another way to raise funds for our Club. Donating is very easy. Go to our link at Give Day Tampa Bay HERE.
All donations received will remain in the community and is tax deductible, as we are a 501-3c organization.
2016 Relay For Life Team
GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB was represented by its 2016 Relay for Life Team at the recent annual event and was successful in raising over $1,000 (and still climbing). This year’s club project was named in memory of late longtime member, Gloria Kasouf, who had chaired this fundraiser for many years. Special congratulations go to member Nat Cunningham, who single-handedly raised over $500 for this American Cancer Society fundraiser.
