GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB members Gail Howard and President Elayne Bassinger recently attended a seminar and meeting in Tampa speaking to the ‘Putting Children First Pinwheels for Prevention’ Campaign to raise funds through the sale of blue pinwheels to aid groups working with children who have suffered abuse.  While there, the clubwomen met large and very committed group of “Bikers Against Child Abuse” who are similarly working to raise funds and bring awareness to the child abuse problem.  The Woman’s Club has raised funds for a number of years through this program and donated to the aid organizations.

 

GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB members honored those who served in our military at two local cemeteries, one in Lutz and another in Land O’Lakes by placing flags on their gravesites and at the cemetery entrances.  Flags were also displayed at the Veterans’ Memorial at Bullard Park in Lutz.  Each year the club members make an effort to memorialize and honor those who have served, so that we may never forget their great contributions to our country and to democracy.

GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB members enjoyed a celebratory luncheon with three new members warmly welcomed into the club.  Pennee Bowen, Karla Wilson and Tracy Kersey were installed by fellow member and District 8 GFWC Director Annette Bellingar.

President Elayne Bellingar honored long-serving members with ‘years of service pins’ to acknowledge their volunteerism.  Barbara Booth (5 years), Mary Anne Lykins, Lois Cohen and Cheryl Winegar (10 years each) and Peggy Cooper (20 years) served for a cumulative 90 years of valuable service within their club and the community.  Several members were unable to attend but they, too, contributed many additional years of volunteerism and service.

 

GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB members delivered gift bags for each resident mom of Sunrise Domestic Violence Shelter of Pasco County.  The bags were filled with luxury cosmetics, lotions, scents, bath products and jewelry pieces for each of the resident children to present to their Moms on Mother’s Day. The club supports this shelter throughout the year with financial donations as well as clothing, household items and other goods as needed.

 

GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB members attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the newly dedicated home for a seriously wounded and disabled veteran, Sualauvi Tuimaleali’ Ifano III, and his family in the new Tunnels to Towers Community in Land O’Lakes.  This newly developed subdivision is constructing brand-new mortgage-free and handicap-accessible homes for disabled veterans and first responders.  Woman’s Club members Nancy Taylor, her veteran husband, Ed Garver, Dee Knerr and Beth Nevel Rader were present at the dedication ceremony to welcome the new family and to present them with housewarming gifts and fire extinguishers to keep them safe.

 

GFWC LUTZ-LAND O’LAKES WOMAN’S CLUB stepped to the fore when Lutz Guv’na Atlas Cortecero brought to its attention Maniscalco Elementary School’s urgent need for a secure, locked and mobile medical cabinet for the nurse’s office.  The club lost no time in generously donating $1450 toward the purchase of a suitable cabinet and President Elayne Bassinger and club members delivered the check to the school.
