Our club supports three local elementary schools: Miles Elementary and Lutz K-8 Schools in Hillsborough County and Denham Oaks Elementary in Pasco County. We volunteer for any school-wide projects, donate clothes, shoes and school supplies and provide Christmas presents for needy students and their families.
BOOK PROGRAMS
Last year we distributed over 1,500 books into the community with our various book programs. Local laundromats, Little Free Libraries, a daycare and a local classroom are stocked monthly with new books. We also provided a start-up library for two Habitat for Humanity Homes. In addition, we were able to create Snuggle Buddies (a book and flashlight wrapped up in a fleece blanket) for 130 first-grade children at Denham Oaks Elementary School.
This year the club will be participating in National Read Aloud Day as members spend time reading aloud to children.
The CSP sponsors a book club for members. Each month we meet to read and discuss a selection chosen by the members. Our club participates in the ESO reading sorority.
LIBRARIES
Our CSP supports the Lutz and Land O’Lakes Libraries. We participate in the Friends of the Library program. We delivered treats to the library staff for Valentine’s Day, Halloween and Christmas. Flowers were presented to the staff on National Library Worker’s Day. Several of our members volunteer at other libraries.
CONTINUING EDUCATION
We actively encourage continued learning for our club members. Members have participated in more than 1,300 hours of instructional classes. This year we sponsored a trip to the Tampa Bay History Center and presented a program at our General Meeting to give members information on OLLI and Road Scholar classes. An extensive list of local exercise, sport, educational and cultural classes was compiled and emailed to all members.
