Civic Engagement and Outreach is an active committee which focuses on Citizenship, Military, Emergency and Disaster Preparation, Safety and Crime Prevention and includes many other areas.
We celebrate, support and donate to the following:
Patriotism, Women Veterans, the Military, (retired and active duty), USO, First responders, Fire and EMT units, ERA, Monument to Women’s Suffrage and in particular, participate in Flag waving each year on 9/11, visit area cemeteries to lay flags on veterans’ graves in observance of Memorial Day and donate to Wreaths Across America each Christmas season, send 1000s of handwritten holiday greeting cards to active duty military and veterans, welcome returning veterans home from Honor Flight missions, support Baldomero Lopez VA nursing home in Land O’Lakes through $$$ donations , promote fire and safety classes within the club, support our local fire stations and EMTs.
We have a popular “STAR” project, whereby members collect retired American flags and carefully cut the stars from the flag field, place each in a small packet with a heart-rending patriotic poem, mean to be carried in a uniform or shirt breast pocket, close to the heart and present them to active duty military and veterans at every opportunity.
We also support homeless military women veterans through donations to Athena House, Tampa, which provides transitional housing, training and job placement so essential to these women vets.
Our committee list of work, projects and support is long and always increasing as do the needs in our community and beyond.
